The Rev. John F. Dale, Grand Commander of Nebraska in 2006-2007 and Illustrious Grand Master in 2003-2004 laid down his sword on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
John was born July 26, 1932, in Peoria, Illinois, the only child of Franklin and Gladys Dale. Both of his parents were teachers and were active in various musical interests. Gladys taught private piano pupils and Franklin played the organ, banjo and mandolin. John participated in Boy Scouts during junior high and high school and as a camp counselor in summers during college. In 1949, John became a member of Irin Chapter, Order of DeMolay, in Pekin, Illinois, and through DeMolay began to become acquainted with the Masonic family or organizations. In preparation for a vocation as a United Methodist Minister, John pursued graduate study at Boston University (Bachelor of Sacred Theology cum laude 1957), the Iliff School of Theology, Denver, Colorado (Master of Sacred Theology 1965), Bethany Theological Seminary, Oak Brook, Illinois (Doctor of Ministry 1978) and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas (Certificate in Spiritual Formation 1988). He was first appointed the pastor of a church in 1953 while he was a senior in college. He was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1957 and retired after 40 years of service in 1995, having served churches in Illinois, Vermont, Colorado, and Nebraska. From 1981 to 1987 he served as District Superintendent of the Southwest District of the Nebraska Annual Conference, United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his wife, Jean Esther. Funeral service will be on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg, NE
